There is a new “kid” in town -- Shaun P. Smith will be the new Chief Professional Officer of the Boys and Girls Club of Elma, Marilla and Wales beginning May 1.
“The Board of Directors is very excited about Shaun joining our organization,” stated Renee Engels, President of the Board. “He brings with him a wealth of experience from the business community through consulting, marketing, and resource development.”
Smith holds a Master’s Degree in Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication as well as being certified in Public Relations and Advertising. “His education and previous employment history will be such an immense asset to our Club,” stated Engels.
A passion for Smith is working with children. He does volunteer work through the Cheektowaga School District and is known as Capt. Book wherein he helps children with reading and writing. He loves working with kids and knows the satisfaction of seeing a child transformed by just spending some quality time with him or her.
Smith is also a U.S. Merchant Marine Officer and U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Master Captain. “I have a true love for boating and find it incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. When not at the Club, you’ll be able to find me on the lake enjoying our great WNY summer,” stated Smith.
Previous employers of Smith include Bryant & Stratton College where he was an instructor in the Business program, Executive Director of the Niagara Arts Council, and owner since 1995 of SPS Business Services where he engaged in business consulting for an extensive number of area entities.
“The Board is planning numerous opportunities to introduce Shaun into our community. After May 1, anyone is invited to stop by the Club and meet him personally. We are certain he will very quickly become a welcomed member in our towns” stated Engels.
Jim Coatsworth, the current Executive Director, will retire from the Club on June 30.
